Dr. Rivers
Dr. Jason K. Rivers, MD, FRCPC, is a clinical professor of dermatology and previous director of the dermatology residence training program at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver where he worked full time for 17 years. He is a downtown Vancouver dermatologist at Pacific Dermaesthetics, his medical and cosmetic dermatology practice.
Background
As the former director of the Canadian Dermatology Association's National Sun Awareness and Skin Cancer Prevention Program, Dr. Rivers remains as the regional director of this group. These campaigns, which reached millions of Canadians each year through the media and educational materials distributed, involved working side by side with groups such as the Canadian Cancer Society and the BC Ministry of Health.
Dr. Rivers was co-principal investigator of the first national study on the sun protection habits of Canadians. He presented a report to the House of Commons Hearing Committee on the Environment (effects of ozone depletion on human skin) and was involved in a forum to create the UV Index.
Clinical Research
Throughout his career Dr. Rivers has published more than 135 articles and book chapters. His current research interests include skin cancer, laser and cosmetic treatments; and cosmeceuticals. He is the editor in chief of the Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, and is the founder of Riversol Skin Care Inc.
He has received numerous awards and is listed in Best Doctors in Canada.
Education
Dr. Rivers received his MD magna cum laude from the University of Ottawa Medical School. His dermatology training took place in Ottawa, Canada and in London, England. Subsequently, he completed fellowships at the New York University's Skin and Cancer Unit and the Sydney Melanoma Unit in Australia.
