Botox for Migraine Treatment Dec:11

BOTOX®, the popular wrinkle filler, has been approved by Health Canada to treat chronic migraine headaches in adults who suffer from migraines 15 or more days per month, lasting at least four hours per day. This comes one year after approval in the US by the FDA and by UK drug regulators.

Clinical studies have shown BOTOX injections to be effective in the prevention of chronic migraines, with more than a 50 percent reduction in “migraine days”. Success was shown in patients given multiple injections in specific sites around the head and neck at intervals of about 12 weeks.

Botox injections are best known for correcting eye wrinkles and expression lines but the botulinum toxin has been used in therapeutic medicine for over twenty years. First used in the treatment for crossed eyes and uncontrollable blinking, BOTOX is now recognized by global regulatory and healthcare authorities as an effective treatment for 21 different indications, including hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) .
