FACIAL REDNESS, FACIAL VEINS AND ROSACEA
Facial redness can be caused by many different factors including sun damage, facial veins (spider veins, broken capillaries) and/or skin conditions such as rosacea or eczema.
If you have chronic facial redness, we recommend seeing a Vancouver skin specialist for a proper diagnosis and recommended treatment.
ROSACEA
Rosacea is a skin disease most commonly seen in fair-skinned individuals and women. It is characterized by a tendency to flush after exposure to trigger factors such as stress, sunlight, spicy foods, extreme temperatures and/or alcohol. The facial redness is most often seen on the cheeks, nose and forehead.
Rosacea is often mistaken for acne or a rash. Over time, rosacea may worsen and develop into persistent inflammatory pimples. Superficial facial veins (capillaries) can also become permanently enlarged, further contributing to the chronic redness of the face.
ROSACEA TREATMENT
While there is no cure for rosacea, it can be managed in a variety of ways. The most common rosacea treatment includes a combination of avoiding trigger factors, taking oral antibiotics and/or using topical medications. Laser technology treatments such as the Gemini laser, the Vbeam laser or IPL Photorejuvenation may also be utilized to combat facial redness.
Our Vancouver rosacea specialist, Dr. Jason Rivers, also advocates a gentle skin care regime using Riversol for Rosacea products.
